Palagruža

Palagruza lighthouse was built in 1875 on the island of the same name, placed in the middle of the Adriatic sea, between the Italian and Croatian coasts, 68 NM south of Split and 26 NM south of the island of Lastovo. This island of exceptional beauty is Croatia's furthest island. The island itself is 1400 m long, 300 m wide and 90 m high, and is covered in Mediterranean vegetation.

ACCOMMODATION

Since the lighthouse building is placed in the middle of the island at the height of 90 m, we do not recommend holidays on Palagruza for the elderly or for those with health problems. There are two four-bed apartments in the spacious lighthouse building.

BEACH

There are two well-kept trails on Palagruza. One of them leads to Stara Vlaka, a pebble bay on the northern side of the island, while the other trail leads to the southern side of Velika Palagruza to Veli Zal, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic. These pebble beaches are ideal for small children due to shallow waters and fine pebbles.

TRANSFER

Transfer to the lighthouse is organized from the port in the town of Korcula. Return transfer in a speedboat, takes approximately three hours and costs 700 Euro per apartment from 01/06 - 01/10/2010. We recommend to those who tend to get seasick to take an anti-nausea pill before departure. Departure time is 06.30. AM

How to get to Korcula:
for those arriving by car, we recommend the road Split - Orebic (peninsula of Peljesac) that will get you to the island of Korcula by ferry.

Since Palagruza is placed in the open sea and even during hot summer days access to the island can be difficult due to waves, it is important to follow the scheduled transfer time. Please make sure to purchase groceries on time. The transfer to the island is very interesting because the speedboat passes through Lastovo channel and by numerous cliffs and islets near the island of Susac where it occasionally makes a stop-over to deliver provisions to the lighthouse keeper before reaching Palagruza.

F&B

Due to Palagruza's distance from the mainland and other islands, provisions cannot be supplied. Before the transfer, we suggest that all provisions be purchased in grocery stores in Korcula. Preparation of meals, including fish that the lighthouse keeper catches himself or buys from other fishermen, can be arranged.

THE STORY

According to church records, Pope Alexander III was on Palagruza on Ash Wednesday, March 9th, 1177. While traveling with his fleet of ten galleys, he was impressed with the archipelago's beauty and decided to make a stop. He was served dinner on a small plateau on the island of Palagruza Mala, that has ever since been called "Papina njiva" (Pope's Field). After its stay on Palagruza, the fleet headed for the island of Vis, then towards Zadar and finally Venice. There is an archeological site on the island Palagruza Velika, while numerous finds bear witness to the fact that Plagruza was the island of the Greek hero Diomedes. The island is a nature reserve with numerous endemic species of flora and fauna.
The surrounding waters are the Adriatic's richest fishing area.

UNTERKUNFT

STRÄNDE

Auf Palagruza gibt es zwei gepflegte Wanderwege. Ein Weg führt auf die nördliche Seite der Insel in die Kiesbucht Stara Vlaka. Der andere Weg führt zu einem der schönsten Strände an der Adria, zu Veli Zal oder "Juzno zlato" an der südlichen Küste der Insel Vela Palagruza. Die beiden Kiesstrände sind wegen seichtem Meer optimal für Kinder

TRANSFER

Da die Insel Palagruza auf hoher See, außerhalb vielbefahrenen Schiffsrouten liegt, bieten wir Sie, vereinbarte Transferzeiten einzuhalten. Sogar an sonnigen Sommertagen kann wegen großen Wellen unmöglich sein, sich auf die Insel auszuschiffen.
Der Transfer zum Leuchtturm erfolgt aus dem Hafen in Korcula um 6.30 Uhr morgens und kostet 700 EUR pro Ferienwohnung in Zeitraum 01/06 - 01/10/10. Der Transfer erfolgt in einem großen Gleitboot mit Kabine und dauert fast drei Stunden. Wenn Sie seekrank sind, empfehlen wir Ihnen, vor dem Transfer eine Tablette dagegen zu nehmen. Da man während des Transfers den Kanal von Lastovo sowie zahlreiche Felsen und Inselchen sehen kann, ist der Transfer sehr interessant. Manchmal hält das Gleitboot kurz auf Susac an, um die Leuchtturmwächter mit Lebensmitteln zu versorgen.

Wir empfehlen Ihnen, sich auf www.jadrolinija.hr den Fahlplan für Fähren auf die Insel Korcula anzusehen und falls nötig, einen Tag vor dem Transfer nach Korcula zu kommen.

Wegen der Entfernung vom Festland, kann überhaupt keine Lebensmittelversorgung organisiert werden. Wir empfehlen Ihnen, nötige Lebensmittel vor dem Transfer in Korcula zu kaufen. Mit den Leuchtturmwächtern kann man die Essenszubereitung vereinbaren. Die Leuchtturmwächter können für Sie auch frische Fische besorgen. Sie fangen es entweder selbst oder kaufen von anderen Fischern.

WISSENSWERTES

Laut Kirchenbüchern war der Papst Alexander III. am Aschenmittwoch, am 9. März 1177 auf Palagruza. Als er mit seiner Flotte von zehn Galeeren unterwegs war, begeisterte ihn die Schönheit des Archipels und er entschied sich, kurz auf Palagruza anzuhalten. Pločica

Plocica lighthouse, built in 1887, is placed on the island of the same name between the islands of Korcula and Hvar.

The island was named after its interesting shape. Flat and low, it resembles a torpedoed WWII aircraft carrier. It is one of the most beautiful landscapes on the Adriatic.

Out of all lighthouses, Plocica, along with Struga, can accommodate the most people (max. of 14) and is perfect for a Robinson Crusoe type of holiday. The ground and first floor have an area of 165 square meters, while the yard is paved with stone and the tamarisks and century-old fig trees offer shade all day long.

BEACH

The rocky seabed on the southern part of the island is completely different to the shallow sea on the northern side and to its sandy lagoon with boat hoist. The beaches are ideal for small children.

TRANSFER

Bothway transfer for guests to the lighthouse is organized from Prigradica. Price of the transfer is 130 EUR per apartment and it is paid on the spot. Guests are transferred by Mr. Ante Petkovic on a fast rubber dinghy. The transfer to Plocica takes 10 to 15 minutes, depending on sea conditions. In case of unfavorable weather conditions or if the number of guests exceeds 7, guests are transferred on a larger boat with cabin. This kind of transfer is slower and takes from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on sea condition.
It is also possible to take a regular transfer from Split, but at a much higher price. Check our transfer price list.

You can reach Prigradica:

by ferry line Split - Vela Luka and by car to Prigradica (in the direction of Blato until you reach the left turn for Prigradica).
from Dubrovnik by car or bus via the Peljesac peninsula to Orebic and then by boat to the island of Korcula. Guests that arrive by car head directly from the town of Korcula to Prigradica on the other side of the island. Guests that arrive by bus get off in Vela Luka, where Ante Petkovic can pick them up if arranged in advance. There is also the possibility that Mr. Petkovic picks up guests in the town of Korcula. This service is charged 200 KN. Taxi services are also available.

F&B

Supplies can be purchased before taking the ferry in Split or in Vela Luka. Please make sure not to be late for your scheduled transfer. A supply of additional provisions can be arranged with Ante Petkovic at extra charge. Furthermore, sea food diet can be arranged with Mr. Petkovic.

THE STORY

When choosing a room in the lighthouse, make sure to take the one placed in northeast corner of the first floor of the lighthouse building. At dusk, look for the light signals from the lighthouses Sucuraj on the island of Hvar and Lovisce on Peljesac.

Da auf Plocica kein Leuchtturmwächter lebt und da die Unterwasserwelt um Plocica zahlreiche wundervolle Tauchziele bietet, ist Plocica für einen Robinson Crusoe - Urlaub ideal. Das Erdgeschoss und die erste Etage des Leuchtturmes haben eine Fläche von 165 Quadratmetern. STRÄNDE

Die felsige Struktur des Meeresbettes auf der südlichen Seite unterscheidet sich völlig von der kleinen Sandlagune vor dem Bootsheber und dem seichten Meer auf der nördlichen Seite der Insel.

TRANSFER

Der Transfer zum Leuchtturm Plocica erfolgt aus Prigradica und wird 130 EUR bezahlt. Wir raten Ihnen, die Transferzeiten einen Tag vor der Anreise telefonisch zu vereinbaren.
Der Transfer erfolgt in einem schnellen Schlauchboot und dauert 10 bis 15 Minuten, je nach Wetterbedingungen. Wenn es über 7 Urlauber gibt oder bei schlechteren Wetterbedingungen, erfolgt der Transfer in einem größeren Boot mit Kabine. In solchem Falle dauert der Transfer 30 bis 45 Minuten, je nach Wetterbedingungen.

Wie gelangen Sie nach Prigradica?
mit der Fähre Split - Vela Luka, dann mit dem Auto nach Prigradica (in Richtung Blato, wo man nach links für Prigradica abbiegt) Aus Prigradica wird der Transfer zum Leuchtturm Plocica organisiert.

aus Dubrovnik mit dem Auto oder Bus über die Halbinsel Peljesac bis zum Ort Orebic, wo man sich auf Schiffe für die Insel Korcula einschiffen kann. Urlauber, die mit dem Auto unterwegs sind, fahren direkt aus Korcula in Richtung Prigradica, das auf der anderen Seite der Insel liegt. Urlauber, die mit dem Bus kommen, steigen in Vela Luka aus, wo sie nach Vereinbarung von Ante Petkovic abgeholt werden können.
Nach Vereinbarung kann Ante Petkovic zum Aufpreis von 200 Kuna Urlauber in der Stadt Korcula abholen. Urlaubern stehen auch Taxis zur Verfügung.

Porer

Porer lighthouse was built in 1833 on the islet of the same name, southwest of Istria's southernmost cape. The islet is an 80 m cliff, 2.5 km from the mainland and the small town of Premantura.

ACCOMMODATION

The 35 m lighthouse tower is overlooks the rest of the stone building. The islet itself has three smaller berths. This a ground-floor building with a concrete yard and has two four-bed apartments.

BEACH

We recommend swimming at docking places. Currents around the islet are very strong all day long, therefore, we recommend that you do not swim over 50 m from the islet's shores even if you are an excellent swimmer. The lighthouse keeper will gladly tell you where the best swimming places are at different times of the day. Due to very strong winds during the day, we recommend windsurfing only to very experienced surfers.

TRANSFER

Return transfer is organized from Premantura by Captain Ivan Giotta and is charged an extra 100 EUR per apartment. Transfer to Porer takes place in the morning and takes 25 to 35 minutes, depending on weather conditions. In order to get to Premantura, take the Pula bypass (12 km) and follow the signs for Premantura and Pomer.

Note: If the boat does not leave for Porer before 10 am due to no-show(s), safe disembarking on the islet of Porer cannot be guaranteed. In such cases, the boat might have to return to the starting point on the mainland in order to wait for more favorable weather conditions. Therefore, we suggest that you arrange the time of departure to and return from the islet with the person responsible for the transfer one day in advance since he/she is always well informed about the weather forecast. If the person responsible for the transfer decides it is too risky to disembark, he/she should be obeyed since disembarking in turbulent waters is not recommended.

THE STORY

The islet is so small that it takes just over a minute to walk around it, nevertheless, the walk is magnificent due to sunsets on Porer that are considered to be the most beautiful on the Adriatic. Trips to the island of Unije, known for its fabulous bays, or to the city of Pula can be arranged with Mr. Giotta.

Before or after your holiday on Porer, we recommend a visit to the reserve nature (Cape of Kamenjak) where there are 530 specious of flora, of which 20 are orchids. Besides one endemic orchid, there are two more endemic plants and several other plants that are endangered on the cape. If you are looking for something different, make sure to visit the Safari bar that will impress you with its original interior and Robinson Crusoe like hosts.

How did the builders succeed in building the lighthouse on Porer in spite of the turbulent sea surrounding the islet? There are many ancient artifacts hidden in the sandy seabed that surrounds Porer. Numerous boats that sank due to tempests can be found in the shallow waters in the vicinity of Krsin, Fenoliga and Veliki Balkun. The islet of Fenoliga is unique and definitely worth visiting due to dinosaur tracks that can be found there!

Der 35 hohe Leuchtturm Porer wurde 1833 auf dem gleichnamigen Inselchen südwestlich von dem südlichsten Kap Istriens gebaut. Das Inselchen ist eigentlich ein 80 m breiter Felsen und liegt 2,5 km vom Festland und dem Ort Premantura entfernt. Das erdgeschossige Steingebäude des Leuchtturms ist von einem Betonhof umgeben.

STRÄNDE

Es empfiehlt sich, dort zu baden, wo Schiffe anlegen. Da die Meeresströmungen um das Inselchen den ganzen Tag sehr stark sind, raten wir Ihnen, sich beim Baden nicht über 50 m von der Küste zu entfernen. Der Leuchtturmwächter zeigt Ihnen gerne, an welchen Orten man schön und sicher baden kann. Tagsüber sind Winde auf Porer so stark, dass Surfen nur erfahren Surfern empfohlen wird.

TRANSFER

Der Transfer erfolgt vormittags aus Premantura und dauert 25 bis 35 Minuten je nach Wetterbedingungen. Für den Transfer ist der Kapitän Ivan Giotta zuständig. Der Transferpreis beträgt 100 EUR per Ferienwohnung. Um Premantura zu erreichen, folgen Sie den Schildern Richtung Premantura und Pomer auf der Umfahrungsstraße.

Man fragt sich, wie es den Menschen im 19. Jahrhundert trotz schweren Wetterbedingungen gelungen ist, den Leuchtturm auf dem Inselchen zu bauen? Um die umliegenden Inselchen Krsin, Fenoliga und Veliki Balkun findet man zahlreiche Wracks der Schiffe, die wegen starken Stürmen untergegangen sind.
Auf Fenoliga sind Dinosaurierfußspuren entdeckt worden.
Vor oder nach Ihrem Urlaub auf Porer empfehlen wir Ihnen, die geschützte Naturlandschaft den Kap Kamenjak zu besichtigen, auf dem 530 Pflanzenarten, davon 20 Orchideen wachsen. Außer einer endemischen Orchideenart wachsen auf dem Kap noch zwei endemische Pflanzen, sowie einpaar Pflanzen, die vor dem Aussterben bedroht sind. Prisnjak

The islet of Prisnjak is only some 300 m from the western coast of the island of Murter. In 1886, a lighthouse was built on the islet in order to make it easier for seamen to navigate in the Murter archipelago.

Prisnjak, lined with stone walls and pine woods, is the most beautiful islet in the Murter archipelago. ACCOMMODATION

There is one large apartment and a spacious stone terrace in the lighthouse. It is surrounded by pine trees and is ideal for an active holiday.

BEACH

Concrete steps make it easy both for children and adults to enter the water. On the other side of the islet, there are several beaches that are not suitable for small children. The surrounding waters are very shallow and warm during the summer, meaning that the average water temperature is higher than in most other places in Dalmatia. Therefore, swimming on Prisnjak is possible even in October.

TRANSFER

Transfer from Murter is organized by Mr. Severin Kulusic and the return transfer costs 60 EURO. Transfer to Prisnjak, unlike to other lighthouses, can be organized during the whole day. It takes some 25 minutes and you will pass by several picturesque islets and cliffs.

Supply of provisions including recently caught fish can be arranged with Captain Kulusic at extra charge.

THE STORY

In the 1950s, the lighthouse keeper's pregnant wife went into premature labor. The husband quickly put her into his row-boat and headed for the town of Murter. Nevertheless, he did not make it in time and the child was born in the row-boat. The child was named "Jadran" (Adriatic), while the place of birth in his birth certificate is Prisnjak - Murter.

A large pine tree in front of the building offers plenty of shade on hot summer days. Next to the tree is a barbecue grill where recently caught fish can be prepared. Staying on Prisnjak is interesting not only in summer, but also in spring and autumn. Spring is perfect for sports fishing, summer is the time to enjoy the warm waters and starry nights, while autumn is famous for fabulous sunsets. There are many islets in the vicinity, while Kornati National Park is only 6 NM away.

Das Inselchen Prisnjak ist nur 300 m von der westlichen Küste der Insel Murter entfernt. 1886 wurde auf dem Inselchen der Leuchtturm gebaut, damit sich Schiffskapitäne im Archipel Murter leichter orientieren können. Der Leuchtturm hat eine geräumige Ferienwohnung sowie eine geräumige Terrasse. An heißen Sommertagen bietet der große Pinienbaum vor dem Leuchtturm viel Schatten. Unweit liegen zahlreiche Inselchen.

STRÄNDE

Da Betontreppen zum Meer führen, ist das Meer leicht erreichbar. Am anderen Ende der Insel gibt es einpaar Strände, die nicht für Kleinkinder optimal sind. Das Meer um Prisnjak ist wärmer als an anderen Orten in Dalmatien. Deshalb ist Baden sogar bis November angenehm.

TRANSFER

Der Transfer dauert etwa 25 Minuten und erfolgt aus Murter im Bootes des Kapitäns Severin Kulusic. Der Transferpreis beträgt 60 EUR. Der Transfer zum Leuchtturm Prisnjak kann, im Unterschied zu anderen Leuchttürmen, sowohl morgens und vormittags als auch nachmittags und abends organisiert werden. Um nach Murter zu kommen, biegt man von der Magistrale für Murter und Tisno ab und überquert die Brücke. Schilder führen Sie bis zum Ort Murter. Die Straße durch das Ortszentrum führt zur Küste. Wir empfehlen Ihnen, sich mit dem Kapitän Kulusic neben dem Denkmal unweit des Hafens zu treffen.

WISSENSWERTES

In den fünfziger Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts bekam die schwangere Frau des Leuchtturmwächters frühzeitig Geburtswehen. Er stellte sie in sein Boot und begab sich auf den Weg nach Murter. Trotz seiner Mühe, gebar sie das Kind im Boot. Dem Kind gaben sie den Namen Jadran (Jadran bedeutet Adria), während Murter - Prisnjak in die Rubrik Geburtsort in seiner Geburtsurkunde eingetragen wurde.

Urlaub auf Prisnjak empfehlen wir nicht denjenigen, die sich nach absoluter Ruhe, Stille und Einsamkeit sehnen. Da die Insel Murter in der Nähe liegt, kommen oft Nautiker und Badegäste in Hochsaison auf die Insel. Meistens ist es aber sehr ruhig!

The lighthouse Rt Zub (Cape tooth) was built in 1872. It is equally distant (13 km) from Porec in the South and Novigrad in the North.

ACCOMMODATION

The lighthouse is a stone building covered by lush vegetation situated some 10 meters from the sea. It contains a single apartment designed for 6 people. The lighthouse has a ground floor and a first floor and is surrounded by a fenced yard. There is no light keeper in the facility, which is completely at guests' disposal.

The lighthouse lies only 10 m from the sea, it is surrounded by vegetation and there are several nice stone and pebble beaches around it. Not only do beautiful pebble and stone beaches stretch directly in front the lighthouse, they are to be found in two nearby bays of Tarska and Lunga. The beaches are suitable for families because parents can overlook their children's play from apartment windows. Beaches are open for all tourists.

TRANSFER

The lighthouse Rt Zub can be reached by asphalt road, which leads directly to the facility. When driving the regional road Novigrad - Porec you will reach the place called Tar. Make a turn towards the Lanterna peninsula and you can drive directly to the lighthouse. In front of it, there is a parking lot for guests.

THE STORY

Local residents retell a legend about Cape Zub (tooth) and its unusual name.
The legends has it that the toothless wife of a local fisherman stood on a rock near the lighthouse waiting for her husband who went to the sea with his boat. However, when the husband landed the shore again, he looked in disbelief at his wife who was standing in front of him smiling and showing her beautiful new teeth. Since then the rock on cape Lanterna has been called cape tooth (rt Zub) and has been associated with magical powers. Even today in Novigrad there are many people who know this unusual story.

Savudrija is the oldest lighthouse in the Adriatic, built in 1818. It is also the northernmost Croatian lighthouse, situated right next to Slovenian border and only 56 km south of Italian town Trieste.

Its light signal can be seen from up to 17 NM or 32 kilometers distance, its building is 36 meters tall and there is a keeper living inside it. Guests have one 4-bed apartment at their disposal. The sea is 30 meters away and there are many restaurants near the facility.
The lighthouse has a fenced garden with Mediterranean plants characteristic for this green part of Istria.

BEACH

There are 30 meters of lush green garden with Mediterranean plants between the lighthouse and the stony beach in front of it. Favorable winds and mild sea currents are excellent for sea sports like windsurfing, and the clear sea and its clear bottom is wonderful for diving.
Beaches are open for all tourists.

TRANSFER

Savudrija has a good traffic connection to the rest of the Istrian peninsula. It is situated on a regional road St. Martin - Savudrija - Umag - Buje. The lighthouse is only 9 km away from the center of Umag from which there is a road leading right to the parking lot in front of it.

THE STORY

According to available information and local stories, the lighthouse Savudrija was built by count Meternich in 1818 for a beautiful Croatian noble lady with whom he fell in love at a Viennese ball. Unfortunately, the owners never got the chance to live together in the building: the noble woman died on the very day the lighthouse was finished and count Meternich never visited it again.

In the middle of the southern side of the island of Lastovo, at the entrance to the bay of Skrivena Luka lies the Cape of Struga where the lighthouse of the same name was built in 1839.

ACCOMMODATION

The lighthouse lies at the height of 70 m, at the very edge of a steep cliff that offers a splendid view of the open sea. The total capacity is 14 persons divided in four apartments for 2-5 persons.

Swimming area with deep waters that belongs to the lighthouse can be found at the bottom of the lighthouse driveway and is surrounded by pine trees. You can also go swimming on splendid rocky beaches in some of the numerous secluded bays where waters are relatively shallow. The beaches are suitable for children.

TRANSFER

The island of Lastovo can be reached by ferry or catamaran from Split. Boats arrive in the port of Ubli, some 20 km from the lighthouse. The ferry trip takes about 4 hours and 45 minutes, while the catamaran trip takes an hour less. There is a gravel road leading to the lighthouse.
If you are traveling without car, transfer to the lighthouse can be arranged with the lighthouse keeper at extra charge.

Several food stores are situated in Lastovo (12 km away). If you are traveling without car, the lighthouse keeper can purchase provisions if necessary. There are several restaurants on the island, but if you would like to taste wonderfully prepared fish, that can be arranged with the Kvinta family.

THE STORY

An unbelievable, yet true story is about a giant lobster. The giant lobster weighted just under eighteen kilograms and was caught in a fishing net at the end of the nineteenth century. The fishermen sent it to the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph, who thanked them by sending them a large trunk of coffee and sugar. In the 1950s, coral divers pulled out a coral weighing 45 kilograms at the same location by using a special device. According to records, this is the largest coral tree that has ever been pulled out of the Adriatic.

Magnificent views and easy access to the sea through the pine woods on the northern side of the lighthouse make Struga a very popular tourist destination.

Three generations of the Kvinta family have been living on the island as lighthouse keepers. In the past, their only preoccupation was to take care of the lighthouse, while nowadays they also take care of guests who stay in the lighthouse.
While the head of the family Jure Kvinta goes fishing, Mrs. Nada Kvinta gladly prepares fish for dinner. Of course, if you would like to join Jure Kvinta when he goes fishing, he will be happy to take you along.

TRANSFER

Aus Split ist die Insel Lastovo mit der Fähre oder mit dem Katamaran zu erreichen. Der Hafen Ubli ist etwa 20 km vom Leuchtturm entfernt. Die Fahrt mit der Fähre dauert vier Stunden und 45 Minuten, mit dem Katamaran eine Stunde weniger. Zum Leuchtturm führt eine nicht asphaltierte Straße. Falls Sie ohne Auto kommen, kann der Leuchtturmwächter Sie zum Aufpreis abholen.

Am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts fingen die Fischer aus Lastovo in einem Fischernetz einen fast 80 kg schweren Hummer, den Sie dann dem Kaiser Franz Joseph schickten. Aus Dankbarkeit schickte der Kaiser den Fischern aus Lastovo eine große Kiste mit Kaffee und Zucker.
In den fünfziger Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts zogen Korallentaucher einen 45 kg schweren Korallenbaum unter dem Kap von Struga aus. Das ist der größte Korallenbaum, der je aus der Adria ausgezogen worden war.

Dank wunderschönen Aussichtspunkten und schöner Küste, die durch den Pinienwald nördlich vom Leuchtturm leicht erreichbar ist, ist der Leuchtturm sehr beliebt bei Urlaubern.

Schon die dritte Generation der Familie Kvinta lebt auf dem Leuchtturm. Früher kümmerten sich Leuchtturmwächter und ihre Familien nur um den Leuchtturm, heute betreuen sie auch Urlauber.

The island is surrounded by endless open sea that makes you feel completely secluded from the rest of the world. When seen from distance, it seems as though Susac consists of two islands.

Susac lighthouse was built in 1878 on the highest point of the extremely steep southern side of the island, where there are numerous cliffs jetting out of the deep crystal clear sea. The lighthouse building lies at a height of 100 m and offers views of the endless open sea. The lighthouse is a stone, ground-floor building with two four-bed apartments. There is a berth where smaller boats can be pulled out in the vicinity of the lighthouse.

Transfer Vela luka - Susac - Vela luka  is organized by speed-boats of Mediterano travel agency. Return transfer is charged extra and lasts 35 -45 minutes.

THE STORY

There is a sea water lake in the cliffs on the northern side of the island that can be reached from the sea by diving through a cave at a depth of some fifteen meters. Even some movie scenes were shot at this location. The only inhabitants on Susac are the lighthouse keepers and sometimes a shepherd with his flock of sheep who comes to the island due to the specific grazing land. Many valuable archeological artifacts have been found on the island, while further research will reveal more about its history. Many endemic species of birds and other animals live on the island.

Die Insel Sušac befindet sich außerhalb vielbefahrenen Schiffsrouten 23 Seemeilen südlich von der Insel Hvar und 13 Seemeilen westlich von der Insel Lastovo. Die Insel liegt auf hoher See und ist völlig vom Festland abgesondert. Diese Abgesondertheit ist noch stärker als auf der Insel Palagruza ausgeprägt, von der manchmal die italienische Küste gesehen werden kann. Aus der Entfernung sieht die Insel so aus, als ob sie aus zwei Inseln bestände.

Der Leuchtturm Susac wurde 1878 auf dem hohen, sehr steilen Südteil der Insel gebaut. In das tiefe klare Meer kann man nach dem Borawind bis zu den Tiefen von 30 m sehen. Der Leuchtturm ist ein erdgeschossiges Steingebäude mit zwei Vierbettferienwohnungen. In der Nähe des Leuchtturmes gibt es eine Mole mit einem kleinen Bootsheber.

TRANSFER

Da die Insel Susac auf hoher See, außerhalb vielbefahrenen Schiffsrouten liegt, bitten wir Sie, vereinbarte Transferzeiten einzuhalten. Sogar an sonnigen Sommertagen kann es wegen großen Wellen unmöglich sein, sich auf die Insel auszuschiffen.
Der Transfer zum Leuchtturm erfolgt aus dem Hafen in Korcula um 6 Uhr morgens und kostet cca. 400 EUR pro Ferienwohnung. WISSENSWERTES

Auf der nördlichen Küste der Insel gibt es einen kleinen See, der aus dem Meer durch eine 15 m tiefe Grotte erreicht werden kann. Dort wurden sogar ein paar Filmszenen gedreht.

Auf der Insel wohnen nur Leuchtturmwächter. Wegen guten Weideplätzen kommt manchmal auch ein Schäfer mit seiner Herde. Auf der Insel gibt es wertvolle archäologische Ausgrabungen, während weitere Forschungen mehr über die Geschichte dieser Insel entdecken werden. Die Insel verfügt über eine reiche endemische Flora und Fauna.

St. John lighthouse, built in 1853. It is located on the most distant islet of the small archipelago in front of Rovinj. This islet is actually a 70 x 50 meter rock with a relatively easily accessible shore and shallow waters, which makes St. John an ideal destination for families with children that would like to spend a Robinson Crusoe type of holiday.

ACCOMMODATION

The 23 m high lighthouse tower offers fabulous view. There are two four-bed apartments in the lighthouse building. The islet has a berth where smaller boats can be pulled out with a crane. Due to splendid underwater sites and numerous species of fish, this destination is very popular for those looking to get away from the everyday life, as well as for those that like to go fishing and diving.

Rock formation on St. John is ideal for suntanning. There are two beaches with shallow waters on opposite sides of the islet. We advise swimmers to be cautious and not to swim far away from the coast due to changing currents.

TRANSFER

Transfer from the port of Rovinj is charged an extra 100 EUR per apartment. We recommend transfers early in the morning (departure time before 9 am). The trip to the lighthouse on Mr. Bogdan Mokoric's boat takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on weather conditions. Disembarking on the islet in the afternoon is difficult due to strong western winds.

All provisions can be purchased in Rovinj prior to the transfer, provided you arrive in Rovinj early in the morning. If you need provisions during your stay on Sv. Ivan, it can be arranged with the lighthouse keeper. If you would like to go shopping for provisions on your own, it can also be arranged with the lighthouse keeper at an extra charge.

THE STORY

Legend has it that a Venetian doge was navigating in the direction of Rovinj in unfavorable weather conditions. His crew spotted the dangerous cliffs of St. John on time and changed their navigation route. The doge vowed to St. John to light him a candle as high as a cathedral tower if he made it safe and sound to Rovinj. After having arrived safely to Rovinj, the doge forgot about his vow. Since he was in a hurry back to Venice he did not even light a little candle on. He remembered that he had not kept his promise several months later when he found himself in the middle of a tempest in the same area. His ship was thrown into the cliffs of St. John and the whole crew along with the doge disappeared in the stormy sea.
Depths of the sea that surrounds St. John vary from ten meters to forty meters where the seabed is rocky and rich in flora and species of fish. St. John is perfectly suited for underwater and sports fishing.

STRÄNDE

Die Küste des Inselchens Sv.Ivan ist optimal für Sonnen. Auf unterschiedlichen Seiten von Sv.Ivan befinden sich zwei Strände mit seichtem Wasser. Wir bitten Badegäste, vorsichtig zu sein und sich wegen veränderlichen Meeresströmungen und Delfinen nicht sehr weit von der Küste zu entfernen.

TRANSFER

Der Transfer bis zum und vom Leuchtturm aus dem Hafen von Rovinj wird extra 100 EUR per Ferienwohnung bezahlt. Es ist empfohlen, frühmorgens den Hafen von Rovinj zu verlassen. Die Fahrt im Boot des Kapitäns Bogdan Mokoric dauert 30 bis 45 Minuten, je nach Wetterbedingungen. Am Nachmittag ist es wegen starkem Westwind ausgesprochen schwer, manchmal sogar unmöglich, sich auf das Inselchen auszuschiffen.

LEBENSMITTELVERSORGUNG

Alle Lebensmittel können in Rovinj gekauft werden, vorausgesehen, dass man frühmorgens nach Rovinj kommt. Falls Sie während Ihres Aufenthaltes auf Sv.Ivan Lebensmittel benötigen, wenden Sie sich an den Leuchtturmwächter. Er kann Lebensmittel für Sie besorgen oder Sie zum Aufpreis zum Festland mitnehmen, damit Sie Ihre Einkäufe selbst machen.

WISSENSWERTES

Laut Legenden war ein venezianischer Doge bei schlechtem Wetter auf dem Weg nach Rovinj. Seine Besatzung sah die gefährlichen Felsen von Sv.Ivan rechtzeitig und änderte den Schiffskurs. Der Doge legte dem Heiligen Johann (Sv.Ivan) das Gelübde, ihm aus Dankbarkeit auf dem gleichnamigen Inselchen eine riesengroße Kerze anzuzünden, vorausgesetzt, dass er wohlbehalten nach Rovinj kommt. Nachdem er nach Rovinj kam, vergaß er sein Gelübde und zündete gar keine Kerze auf dem Inselchen Sv.Ivan an, weil er es eilig hatte. Einpaar Monate später, als der Doge sich in der Umgebung von Sv.Ivan mitten eines starken Sturmes befand, fiel ihm ein, dass er sein Gelübde gebrochen hatte. Sein Schiff wurde auf die Felsen des Inselchens geworfen. Der Doge und seine Besatzung sind untergegangen.

St. Peter lighthouse was built in 1884 on the peninsula of the same name that is placed at the entrance to the town of Makarska, in the vicinity of one of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic. The lighthouse is a 20 minute walk from the center of Makarska and is 85 km from Split Airport. An asphalt road leads to the lighthouse.

ACCOMMODATION

The lighthouse is a stone, ground-floor building surrounded by a terrace. There is one five-bed apartment in the lighthouse. The peninsula itself is a forest park.

BEACH

The distance from the lighthouse terrace to the sea is 10 meters. There are several beaches with flat rocks suitable for suntanning in the vicinity of the lighthouse. When going from the lighthouse to Makarska, you will pass by one of the most beautiful pebble beaches on the Adriatic that has been awarded a Blue Flag. It is suitable for small children and offers numerous recreational activities and restaurants.

TRANSFER

In order to get to the lighthouse, take the road that leads to Makarska's "riva" (waterfront). When you reach the waterfront, turn right and drive west to the gate by the pine woods. We advise you arrange to meet with Ms. Josipovic, who takes care of lighthouse guests, by the gate since she has the gate key. She will open the gate for You upon arrival. A narrow asphalt road leads to the lighthouse, so You can park Your car there. However, in the next days Your car can be moved only from 05.AM - 09.AM, as only then the gate will reopen. Or You can choose to park Your car outside the forest park of  Sveti petar.
You can get to Split by plane and then by local bus lines to Makarska. You can take a bus from Split Airport to the Harbor Master's Office in Split. The bus station, where buses for Makarska leave almost every hour, is ten minutes away on foot.
Baggage transfer from the bus station in Makarska to the lighthouse can be arranged at extra charge.

THE STORY

It is not known who named the lighthouse after the saint, the first apostle and martyr who also holds the key to heaven's gate. Nevertheless, this magnificent peninsula and the lighthouse on it resemble heaven due to beautiful beaches, crystal clear sea and Biokovo Mountain in the background.
The town of Makarska is one of the best known tourist destinations on the Adriatic and, apart from its beaches, offers many sports activities. The vicinity of Makarska, with numerous places to go out to, makes this lighthouse an exclusive holiday destination.
We recommend to those traveling by car one-day trips to Biokovo and its highest peak Sv. Jure, where you can try paragliding and enjoy the most beautiful sunsets in this part of Europe. An asphalt road leads to Biokovo and there are road signs that will safely take you to a well-kept belvedere.

UNTERKUNFT

Der Leuchtturm ist ein erdgeschossiges Steingebäude, um das es eine Terrasse gibt. Im Leuchtturm gibt es eine Fünfbettferienwohnung. Die Halbinsel ist ein Parkwald.

STRÄNDE

Von der Leuchtturmterrasse bis zum Meer gibt es etwa 10 Meter. Die Felsen auf Stränden um den Leuchtturm sind für Sonnen geeignet. Wenn man sich aus dem Leuchtturm in Richtung Makarska begibt, kommt man in den oben erwähnten Parkwald. Links vom Parkwald liegt einer der schönsten Kiesstrände an der Adria. Dieser kleinkinder- und behindertenfreundliche Blaue Flagge-Strand biete viele Restaurants und eine große Auswahl an Sportaktivitäten.

TRANSFER

Von der Riva in Makarska führt die Straße zum Leuchtturm. Setzen Sie sich bitte mit unserer Kontakktperson Frau Josipovic rechtzeitig in Verbidung. Sie wird Sie am Tor des Parkwaldes Sv. Petar treffen und das Tor oeffnen. Ihren Wagen koennen Sie ganz in der Naehe des Leuchtturms parken. Das Tor oeffnet sich aber wieder jeden Tag vom 05.00 - 09.00., also darauf aufpassen! Falls Sie Ihren Wagen taeglich brauchen werden, dann parken Sie ausserhalb des Parkwaldes Sv. Petar.

LEBENSMITTELVERSORGUNG

Da alle Lebensmittel in Geschäften in Makarska gekauft werden können, ist es nicht nötig, Lebensmittel mitzunehmen. An der Riva in Makarska kann man von Fischern preiswert frische Fische kaufen.

WISSENSWERTES

Es ist unbekannt, wer und wann diesen Leuchtturm nach dem Heiligen, dem ersten Apostel, dem Märtyrer und dem Wächter der Tür zum Paradies benannt hat. Jedoch gleichen der Leuchtturm und seine Umgebung dank dem kristallblauen Meer, herrlichen Stränden und dem Berg Biokovo im Hintergrund dem echten Paradies. Urlaubern, die mit dem Auto kommen, empfehlen wir eintägige Ausflüge auf den Berg Biokovo und seinen höchsten Gipfel Sv. Jure, wo man wundervolle, in diesem Teil Europas einmalige Sonnenuntergänge genießen kann. Eine Asphaltstraße sowie Schilder führen auf Biokovo und zu einem schönen Aussichtspunkt.

Weil der Leuchtturm Sv. Petar unmittelbar an einem Spazierweg liegt, befinden sich auf dem Gelände um den Leuchtturm sowie an dem Strand vor dem Leuchtturm häufig Badende und Spaziergänger. The lighthouse was built in 1849 on the southwestern cape of the island of Dugi otok, 35 km west of the city of Zadar.

TRANSFER

The island of Dugi otok is connected to the mainland by ferry line Zadar - Brbinj (20 NM, the ferry trip takes an hour and 15 min). The lighthouse is some 20 km form Brbinj and can be reached by car by taking the asphalt road. Please check the ferry line schedule ( www.jadrolinija.hr ) since it changes depending on the season. We recommend you arrive in the port of Zadar on time in order to be certain that you will embark a ferry in high season.

We kindly ask you to arrive after noon since previous guests must leave the apartment by 10 and apartments must be cleaned and prepared for your arrival.

F&B

There is an open market, as well as many grocery stores in the vicinity of the port of Zadar. Please keep in mind that prices on Dugi otok are much higher than in Zadar, while it might be difficult to purchase some provisions during high season, such as fresh meat. We advise you to purchase provisions in Bozava or in the place of Sali on the other side of the island, where there is a much better selection. Fish can be bought from the lighthouse keeper if arranged in advance, while you can also arrange preparation of fish specialties with the lighthouse keeper and his wife.

THE STORY

The thick lighthouse walls, that according to legend contain thousands of egg-whites to make them more resistant to wind and sea, protect you from the blazing sun in the summer months. There is an old church under a century-old pine tree in the large paved yard.

During your stay in Veli Rat, you can visit Kornati National Park and Telascica Nature Park nearby. The starting point for trips to Kornati is the place of Sali on the other side of Dugi otok. The lighthouse has always had a lighthouse keeper and there has always been a waiting list, since many lighthouse keepers have been dreaming of spending at least some time in this unique lighthouse. TRANSFER

Die Insel Dugi otok ist mit dem Festland durch die Fähre Zadar-Brbinj verbunden. Die Entfernung beträgt 20 Seemeilen und die Fahrt dauert eine Stunde und 15 Minuten. Der Leuchtturm, der etwa 20 km von Brbinj entfernt ist, ist auf der Asphaltstraße mit dem Personalkraftwagen zu erreichen. Da der Fahrplan der Fähre Zadar-Brbinj saisonabhängig ist, empfehlen wir Ihnen, sich vor der Anreise den Fahrplan auf www.jadrolinija.hr anzusehen und zeitig in den Hafen von Zadar zu kommen, um sich in der Hochsaison rechtzeitig auf die Fähre einzuschiffen zu können.

LEBENSMITTELVERSORGUNG

In der Nähe des Fährehafens in Zadar gibt es einen Marktplatz und zahlreiche Lebensmittelgeschäfte. Preise auf der Insel Dugi otok sind beträchtlich höher als in Zadar, wobei es während der Saison Probleme mit der Versorgung bestimmter Lebensmittel wie z.B. Fleisch geben könnte. Wir empfehlen Ihnen, Ihre Einkäufe in Bozava oder in Sali, wo es eine größere Auswahl gibt, zu machen. Frische Fische kann man preiswert vom Leuchtturmwächter kaufen, während seine Frau nach Vereinbarung Fischspezialitäten zum Abendessen zubereiten kann. Dank guter Verkehrsverbindungen mit umliegenden Ortschaften ist regelmäßige Lebensmittelversorgung möglich.

WISSENSWERTES

Dank dicker Leuchtturmmauern, die Eiweiß enthalten, um dem Meer und den Winden standhalten zu können, sind die Temperaturen im Leuchtturm sogar an heißen Sommertagen sehr angenehm. Im geräumigen Hof des Leuchtturmes, im Schatten eines jahrhundertealten Pinienbaumes befindet sich eine kleine alte Kirche, die ideal für eine romantische Hochzeit ist.
